Toyota Land Cruiser is no Longer the World’s Fastest SUV

The 2,000-horsepower Toyota Land Cruiser has been dethroned and is no longer the world’s fastest SUV.

That honor now goes to a heavily modified Nissan Qashqai from Severn Valley Motorsport (SVM), which hit nearly 238 mph at a Vmax200 event. It appears the official speed was 237.8 mph based on an image posted on SVM’s Facebook page, but the company released the above image stating 237.6 mph, which we assume is a typo. Regardless, it’s fast.

Known as the Rogue Sport in the U.S., the Qashqai from SVM hardly retains any of its factory components. That’s because a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 from a Nissan GT-R is what motivates the SUV with 2,000 hp, just like the Land Cruiser. It’s a bit reminiscent of the insane Nissan Juke R the Japanese automaker itself created, but this Qashqai is much more powerful and faster.

Of course you can argue that the Land Cruiser is the true record holder since it is a body-on-frame SUV. By definition, the Qashqai is technically a crossover. But whatever, something that’s supposed to haul a family decided to go almost 238 mph and we aren’t complaining.

It’s far from the world’s fastest vehicle though. Shortly after the Qashqai did its record-setting run, Koenigsegg driver Niklas Lilja hopped into the Koenigsegg Agera RSN and hit 242 mph, and Lilja set a record for production cars when he hit 278 mph on a closed road in Nevada earlier this year.
